What Does a Dentist Do?

A dentist is also known as a dental surgeon. They are responsible for a person’s oral health. In addition to the dentist, a dentist’s team consists of a dental assistant, a dental hygienist, and sometimes a dental technician. Depending on dentistry, a dentist might have additional staff members. These professionals help the dentist Adelaide provide dental services. The dentist’s team consists of several people.

dentist AdelaideA dentist Adelaide is a trained health professional who specialises in oral health. A DMD and DDS are similar degrees that train dentists in the same field. A dentist’s responsibility is to ensure that patients receive quality oral care and a healthy mouth. Many dentists choose to continue their education to earn certification in one of nine areas of dentistry. A DMD is usually more experienced and specialised in a particular area, while a DDS is generally more general and has a broader knowledge base.

A dentist will check the appearance of your teeth and gums to ensure that they are healthy. They will also examine your bite to determine whether you have crooked teeth, and they will often prescribe pain medication to relieve your discomfort. A DDS can also help you improve your chewing, speaking, and digestion. A dentist’s job also requires them to oversee private practice administration and supervise a large staff. In a business setting, a dentist must keep records of their patient’s dental care.

In addition to treating oral diseases, a dentist can also diagnose and treat other types of oral health issues. The training a dentist undergoes is similar to that of a doctor. ADDS will focus on biomedical science, and a DMD will diagnose and treat oral diseases. Some dentists will specialise in one of nine dental specialties. A DMD, DDS, or DMD will specialise in these areas.

The dental profession is highly skilled and requires an individual to be caring, clever, and capable. A dentist has to make patients comfortable and understand the procedures. ADDS will be an asset to any office and help patients feel confident about their teeth. ADDS will be the only person in the office that can perform dental work, so they must be knowledgeable about their work and the latest developments in the field.

A DMD is an associate degree, which is similar to a DDS in training. However, DMDs are more qualified in their field, while DDSs are more specialised in a specific area of medicine. A DMD can be a dentist with a DMD degree, while a DDS is a doctor with a DDS. These degrees are both considered equivalent and are the same, but they have slightly different definitions.

A dentist Adelaide is an expert in the field of dentistry. They can treat gum and teeth diseases and prescribe pain medications. In addition to dental care, they oversee a wide range of practices. A DDS supervises a large staff and is responsible for the overall management of a dental practice. A DDS helps patients prevent and treat dental problems and improve oral health. They can also provide education on how to take care of their teeth.

A DDS supervises the dental team. They work with the dentist to treat the problems in the mouth. In addition to their clinical duties, they also oversee the activities of their staff. For instance, they may supervise a large staff. They will also provide instruction about oral health care and preventive measures. All of these activities can be performed by a DDS. The DDS is also responsible for developing and maintaining a patient’s oral hygiene.

In addition to performing dental procedures, a DDS also supervises the administration of a dental practice. A dentist’s responsibilities range from diagnosis to preventative care. They may also perform oral surgeries. ADDS will be the most qualified candidate for a dental job in some cases. A DDS can perform a wide range of procedures. ADDS will be the most experienced practitioner in the field. A DMD can treat all types of conditions.

Dental Implants – What to Expect After the Procedure

When you miss one or more teeth, you may wish to consider dental implants. This procedure is much easier than removing your natural teeth, but there are certain things you should know before the surgery. For example, it is important to have healthy gums and enough bone in your jaw for the implant to be secure. You will also need to maintain a good oral hygiene regimen and make regular visits to the dentist. Heavy smokers, people with chronic illnesses, and radiation therapy should not have dental implants, as these procedures require more invasive techniques.

dental implantsThe procedure can be performed as an outpatient procedure, and you can return to work the day following the surgery. Most dental implant procedures are performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation. Post-implant surgery discomfort is similar to other dental surgeries, with minor bruising, pain, and swelling. Patients who have undergone this procedure often have a few days of recovery time. Some patients experience significant swelling, bruising, and bleeding and may experience mild discomfort.

After the procedure, you may experience bruising, minor bleeding, and pain. During the first few weeks, your dentist will give you temporary dentures. It will help if you eat soft, cold, and non-spicy food to avoid dehydration. You should avoid spicy and hot food and consume only warm, soft foods during this time. Your oral surgeon will design your final replacement denture or bridgework. It will restore the functionality and appearance of your mouth.

A day or two after the procedure, you will have to be prepared for the procedure. You will need to take a few days off work to recover. Although you won’t need to miss work, it’s still important to avoid big social commitments. If you do, your care team will explain how to avoid these situations. The day after surgery, you’ll be given an antibiotic and an IV. After that, you can continue living your normal life until your new teeth are ready to be fitted.

After dental implants, you must follow the doctor’s instructions and practice proper oral hygiene. It is highly recommended that you don’t smoke for at least six weeks after the procedure. It can decrease the success of your implant. You’ll need to brush and floss your teeth regularly during this time. The patient must take time off from work for a few days. It would help if you avoided big social engagements for a couple of days after the procedure.

After dental implants, you will have to take special care of them. It would help if you avoid alcohol and smoking, and your implant may require a few weeks of adjustment. You should follow the aftercare instructions of your dentist. Aside from that, you will also need to follow the aftercare instructions provided by the doctor. You should take some pain medication or antibiotics for the first few days. It would help if you also tried to avoid a lot of noise during this time.

Swelling will be common after dental implants. During the first few days following your surgery, you may experience some pain or swelling. It is normal and should last no longer than a day or two. It would help if you avoided any social commitments at least a week after the surgery. It is because it can lead to pain and infection. Henceforth, it is essential to consult your dentist to determine the best care for your new teeth.

After your surgery, you may experience some swelling. It is normal and will peak between two and three days after your procedure. After the surgery, you can apply ice packs wrapped in a clean towel to reduce the swelling. It would effectively help if you remembered to change the ice pack after 24 hours. You will want to use a different type of treatment after the initial evaluation. Your dentist will discuss which types of treatment will work best for you. Ask your dentist for recommendations and check their credentials.

Pure Ceramic Dental Implants

A new dental implant solution

Excellence In Dentistry located in the Brisbane CBD now offers ceramic dental implants for suitable patients. This type of implant is an effective solution for patients who, for whatever reason, are unable to have metal dental implants.

While it is rare, there are cases where people are allergic to the titanium implants. This is rare because the titanium used in dental implants is biocompatible. However, if this does occur we have pure ceramic implants to help you receive the treatment you need.

At Excellence in Dentistry we use the Straumann® PURE Ceramic Implant. This is made from yttrium-stabilised zirconium dioxide, a material which has been used for a long time in orthopaedics.

Straumann® PURE Ceramic Dental Implant

At Excellence in Dentistry, we offer Pure ceramic dental implants for suitable patients. Pure Ceramic Implants are natural, esthetic and strong. It is a perfect metal-free solution to replace missing teeth over conventional methods.

This type of dental implant is suitable for replacing single or multiple teeth in either your upper or lower jaw.

If you would like to know more about whether or not ceramic dental implants are right for you, or to request an appointment, please contact us today.

The process

The process is similar to traditional dental implants: with one important exception. A traditional dental implant treatment requires three parts: the dental implant, the abutment, and the implant crown, bridge or denture.

With the ceramic dental implant there is only the dental implant and the implant crown, bridge or denture. What this means for you is faster treatment time. With the traditional implant, the abutment—that connects the implant with the implant crown—involves an extra couple of weeks to heal.

Are you looking for Dental implant in Brisbane ?
We offer the next best thing to your natural tooth

Unlike other forms of tooth restorations, a tooth implant is a whole-tooth replacement: they replace the tooth root and the implant crown replaces the crown of a tooth.

 The benefits of tooth replacement

Some considerations that make this  the best solution to a missing tooth:

  • Aesthetic advantages –  We commonly use Titanium for implants,   which is biocompatible. This means that there is very little chance that your body will reject the foreign object. They also look and feel just like natural teeth.
  • Functional advantages – Your implant restoration will act just like a real tooth. You will be able to eat and chew without the pain or irritation associated with a missing tooth. A dental implant will also maintain your bone structure and support your facial tissues.
  • Confidence – An implant restoration will allow you to speak and eat with more confidence and comfort.
  • Reliability – The success rate of implant dentistry is very high and they are considered an excellent option for tooth replacement.
  • Enjoy Your Favourite Foods – Tooth replacement will actually allow for the improved enjoyment of the textures and flavours of your favourite foods.

Who is an ideal candidate for tooth implants?

The ideal candidate for implant dentistry is someone who is in good general and oral health. An ideal candidate is also someone who has adequate jawbone available to support the dental implant.

When you lose a tooth, the bone that ‘holds’ the tooth root in place slowly, gradually starts to dissolve. Once it’s gone, it isn’t coming back. That is why it is important to get treatment as soon as possible after you have lost a tooth.

It is also highly recommended that if you are a smoker you quit or cut back as smoking can adversely affect the time it takes for the dental implant to heal.

About your teeth replacement

Tooth implants may be used to replace one tooth, several teeth or all missing teeth. They are made from titanium and are surgically inserted into your jawbone. Over a period of months your jaw will heal around the implant creating a strong and sturdy artificial tooth root for the prosthetic tooth.

How long it takes your jawbone to heal around the implant depends on:

  • Where the dental implant is placed: if it’s in your upper jaw it will take longer than if it’s in your lower jaw
  • Your overall health
  • Your oral health
  • Your body’s natural ability to heal

Once your jawbone has healed around the dental implant, it is then a matter of attaching the prosthetic tooth (crown, bridge or dentures). You will then have restored form and function to your smile.

Paediatric Dentist Brisbane QLD

Do you want your child to have a smile that lasts a lifetime?

Excellence in Dentistry believes in starting excellent oral health care early in a person’s life, so we focus on helping your kids feel comfortable with coming to the dentist, teaching them to care for the health of their teeth and preventing problems.

Your child’s visit is as special to us as yours, and together we ensure your child has the best chance for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Fissure Sealants

One of the preventive measures to protect children’s back teeth is fissure sealants. They are a protective plastic coating, which are applied to the chewing surfaces of newly erupted molars at risk of decay. The chewing surfaces of back teeth have small grooves or fissures which often extend right down into the tooth itself.

However well the teeth are brushed, these fissures are very difficult to clean thoroughly. Bacteria and food particles stick to them and eventually cause decay. Fissure sealants completely seal off these grooves, preventing any food particles or bacteria from getting in. They do not affect the normal chewing function of teeth.

Looking after their oral health now and for tomorrow.

We believe that prevention is better than cure, so we aim to educate children on the best ways to care for their teeth, and communicate with them in a way that they can understand.

We aim to be a partner in your child’s oral health and hope to establish a long-lasting relationship with your child based on trust, mutual respect and compassion.

Mouth Guards

Save your kids and your own precious teeth by wearing a simple mouth guard when playing sports, riding skates or even bikes, especially BMX. Be a role model for your kids and teach them to protect their teeth. Start early with personal safety gears and your kids will learn to take their safety seriously.

Mouth guard is a protective device for the mouth that covers the teeth and gums to prevent and reduce injury to the teeth, arches, lips and gums, and most often is used to prevent injury in contact sports.

  • Traumatized Teeth

Accidents happen and we are here to help.

Knowing what to do in a dental emergency can be the difference between saving and losing a tooth. If you are suffering persistent toothache it is a sign that something is wrong. Don’t wait for the pain to become unbearable. Visit the dentist today.

Tooth loss

In the event that you lose a tooth, hold the tooth by the crown and rinse off the tooth root. If possible gently replace the tooth into the socket and gently hold the tooth in place. If you cannot replace the tooth place it gently in a glass of milk and get to the dentist within half an hour. The quicker you get to the dentist with your tooth, the great chance you have of saving your tooth.

Broken Tooth

For a broken tooth, you will need to rinse your mouth with warm water to clean your mouth. Then place a cold compress on the area in order to minimise the swelling. If possible, get someone to call the dentist as you’re doing this; if no one is around follow these steps and then call the dentist.

When experiencing toothache, it is better to be safe than sorry. The ‘I’ll wait and see what happens’ attitude could be a costly one. When you experience toothache you should rinse your mouth in warm water and gentle floss around the tooth to ensure there’s nothing stuck between your teeth.

Do not put any sort of painkiller against the gum near the aching tooth because it could burn the gum tissue. If the pain persists, call the dentist.

Need treatment right away? No problem. Contact the team at Excellence in Dentistry today to book an appointment.
